This project illustrates the stark contrast between the carefully crafted visitor message that draws tourist by the thousands and the little known areas of Santa Barbara where not even locals go much after dark. The Funk Zone has been a blighted area of Santa Barbara for decades and challenge to city leaders as to what to do about the area, what to allow to be done and how best to regulate development. Thank goodness that they could not make up their minds, because this allowed the artist and architects, fueled by investment and driven by creativity to solve the problems.
