Description: In 2011, JRDV Urban was hired by the City of Oakland to create a Specific Plan for the revitalization of West Oakland. The architects soon discovered that a history of racism & negligence in city planning needed to be addressed. This new plan required a unique approach - that included both empathy and technology.
This short film contrasts views of the West Oakland Specific Plan (WOSP) while documenting the process. JRDV architects created a 3-D model of all buildings in the 6.5 square mile neighborhood, including animations of potential uses & developments, for community review & revision. The WOSP's impact will be felt for decades to come.
