Title: Desert Rising
Category: Inspired by Nature
Description: Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve is a place of majestic beauty, quiet solitude, abundant wildlife, ancient artifacts, and community pride. Envisioned to be nearly 35,000 acres, or roughly 57 square miles when approved by Scottsdale voters in 1994, this preserve comprises the rugged McDowell Mountains and adjoining high desert that has been preserved in perpetuity as natural open space. Since then the urbanization of north Scottsdale has occurred. Frank Lloyds Wright’s Taliesin West was built nearby in 1937, far from the outreaches of Scottsdale. Today, it is surrounded by a sea of shopping centers and red tile roofs. Responsible architecture for 21st Century living. Staying true to the principles of organic architecture taught by Frank Lloyd Wright, it is important to design and build homes that are in harmony with the land. This is especially important in designing communities, and their homes that reside along the McDowell Mountains. PHX Architecture was invited to create a home that was unique and different, one that would fit in with the desert environment. Our film tells viewers how the landscape influences great architectural design. The curve of the home, materials used, and vast windows masterfully frame iconic mountain peaks and embrace the desert landscape.
