Title: Cashman Battery
Category: Sustainability
Description: Located more than a half mile north of downtown Las Vegas, access to the Cashman Center is through blighted areas along Las Vegas Boulevard and surrounding residential neighborhoods where homelessness and urban destitution are prevalent. The site requires visitors to drive themselves to an event and due to an absence of captivating programs, leave immediately afterwards. This form of development is not conducive to creating an urban fabric that reinforces community and bolsters the economy of its surroundings; therefore, the Cashman site inevitably needs to be re-imagined.
The Cashman Battery concept takes the existing Cashman Field site, captures the excess associated with Las Vegas and the limited resources available to create a wonderful canvas to showcase the beauty in the interplay. The concept creates a campus of buildings that are generative; batteries harnessing the natural assets of solar and wind power to fuel the campus and surrounding neighborhoods.
Integrating into the community by providing a balanced mixed-use facility, the Cashman Battery would stitch together neighborhoods through a holistic approach to renewable energy. By bringing in innovation, entertainment, learning, transportation, residential and office components, the Cashman Battery activates the site, attracts visitors, improves the workforce, and galvanizes a community.
