“Ice Age Carolinas: Exploring Our Pleistocene Past”, at the Museum of York County in South Carolina, is more than just an exhibit. It’s a place where people can go and learn about the Ice Early Pleistocene Era, the Middle Pleistocene Era, and the Late Pleistocene Era, and incorporate what they have learned as they
It was important for the museum and members of the community to come together and bring this piece of history to life. The Carolina Piedmont, which is located between the mountains and the Coast, was first inhabited by the European explorers almost 600 years ago and has been a well preserved as part of the South for hundreds of years. Going back more than 2 million years, and learning about the types of creatures that roamed this region, gives us the opportunity to see our wildlife in a different light and become part of its preservation.
Learning that these changes were directly connected to climate change gives us a chance to teach our visitors that they can be involved in preserving both wildlife and our planet.
