Title: The Lower Hill District
Category: Justice & equity
Description: The Lower Hill District connects Pittsburgh to its history, celebrating its dynamic energy and creating just and equitable opportunities for its communities to gather, play, eat, learn, and build. This connective and storied neighborhood, set in the location that Harlem Renaissance poet Claude McKay described as "The Crossroads of the World," blends its rich history with a dynamic vibrancy and sense of place. Lower Hill District leaves no doubt as to where Pittsburgh's future lies. Built into the development's lifeblood is a strong community engagement component which underlies the initial vision while continuing the conversation with local stakeholders. The challenge for this transformational development was accomplishing several disparate goals at once: weaving retail, entertainment, residential, hotel, and commercial office components together into one cohesive destination that could form the center of energy for Pittsburgh while remaining true to the local community. Thank you the teams at Buccini/Polin Group, FNB, Pittsburgh Penguins, The Hill District CDC, Graves Design Group, Michael Baker International, PJ Dick, Inc., CJL Engineering, WSP Global, UpStudio Landscapes, Trans Associates, Advantus Engineers, and HLB Lighting Design for their contributions to this project and this film.
