Description: The Hangout is a project developed for the Lower Ninth ward to bring the idea of play to everyday spaces. The Urban Conga developed this project to provide a moment in the community where the people could come together and interact at an everyday space. The site was at the Lower Ninth Ward's only Laundry mat, grocery store, and barber shop post Katrina. Even though Katrina hit about 11 years ago this community is still struggling to get back on its feet. We wanted to provide an opportunity for the community to play together and feel safe. As soon as we began implementing this project the streets in the area began to get fixed, and the local business began to expand. This project was funded by KaBOOM! as a part of their "Play everywhere" initiative
